At the present time the county jail that was built in 1978 only has enough room to house approximately 152 inmates.
Since that time the jail inmate population has more inmates than its system was designed to accommodate.
We, the undersigned people of Ashtabula County, of Ashtabula, Ohio are in desperate need of a larger county jail facility. At the present time the county jail that was built in 1978 only has enough room to house approximately 152 inmates.
Since that time the jail inmate population has more inmates than its system was designed to accommodate. There are many people out on the streets that should be doing time.
We the people of Ashtabula County are asking, pleading, that the County Commissioners of Ashtabula County take under serious immediate consideration that a larger county jail that can house about 700 inmates be built.
We feel that this will create many more good jobs and make Ashtabula County a safer place to live.
