In recent years, large advances have been made in the field of genetic engineering with breakthroughs such as the ability to target and edit individual genes on the DNA strand with a tool called CRISPR. This essentially enables humans to "design their own baby," or select the traits of their unborn child to customize it to their liking. We believe that this practice is unethical and dangerous as it has unforeseen consequences and could seriously alter the human race.
We, the undersigned, call the United States Congress to impose regulations to prevent the use of CRISPR on humans. This tool is unethical and potentially dangerous and should therefore be restricted.
