The Director of the WVDNR has called upon the WV Natural Resources Commission to vote this Summer on a proposal to improve deer management and hunting in WV by reducing the annual antlered deer bag limit from three (3) to two (2) bucks per year in WV. The proposal, if adopted, would allow one (1) antlered deer and two (2) antlerless deer on the base license with an additional one (1) antlered deer tag available for purchase to be used in the hunter’s choice of season (bow, rifle or muzzleloader). Additional class N antlerless tags will be available for purchase on a county by county basis as needed per WVDNR biologist’s recommendations.
This is a much needed first step toward achieving better buck management in WV, shifting the focus on quality rather than quantity and joining WV in the national trend of reducing buck bag limits. For more information regarding the proposal please visit: Mountaineer QDMA Petition Background
