Victory Drive Southwest in Port Orchard, WA currently has a speed limit of 35 MPH. With homes right off Victory Dr., children at play, riding their bikes, and multiple walkers this speed limit is to high and very dangerous.
The community of Sunnyslope, of which Victory Dr. SW is a part of has grown tremendously over the years. Per USA.com, the population of Port Orchard, WA has increased 65.28% since 2000. The population in 2010-2014 was reported to be 12,715. The United States Census Bureau estimates the population of 2014 at 13,266.
Chis Lukkasson was a victim of a hit and run fatality on 10-14-15, she died on 10-15-15. She was taking a walk on Victory Drive. The majority of drivers on Victory Dr. exceed the speed limit of 35 MPH. That being said the limit of 35 MPH is to high for this very populated road. The community will only continue to grow as shown in the above population reports. I ask that you please consider lowering the currently speed limit of 35 MPH to 25 MPH for the safety of the community.
We the, undersigned, call on Kitsap County to lower the current speed limit on Victory Drive Southwest, Port Orchard, WA, within the Sunnyslope community, from 35 MPH to 25 MPH.
The amount of traffic on this road has increased tremendously and when combined with the current speed limit of 35 MPH it allows for unnecessary dangerous conditions. There have been multiple near misses with individuals on this road.
One incident, of 10-14-15 ended in a fatality. The victim was struck by a motor vehicle while on her daily walk on Victory Dr. SW.
Please lower the speed limit 25 MPH to keep our roads and individuals safe.
