Make Marijuana Legal In India

Legal till 1985 before Rajiv Gandhi made it illegal, Marijuana(Cannabis Sativa) was legal in India. In 1961, UN declared Marijuana as a synthetic drug though it is grown naturally. In fact, Atharva veda(XI,6,15) says Marijuana as one of the five most sacred plants on earth. In 1961 India denied to sign for banning marijuana in as it was the backbone of Ayurveda (also known as the Penicillin of Ayurveda). But in 1985, under US pressure, it was declared illegal, but it is still legal in 27 US states for medical purposes, and 11 US states for recreational purposes. The states which have legal marijuana, alcohol consumption decreased by 10%. Talking about health issues, anything in excess amount is bad for health, even water. But, alcohol and cigarettes are 114% more harmful than marijuana. Every 96 minutes, 1 Indian die due to alcohol, but the last person died smoking marijuana was when he was crossing a road and a drunkard hit him with car. With ban of marijuana, it's black market increased. Himachal Pradesh has 60,000 Kilos of illegal marijuana production, if it was legal proper revenew could be collected. Marijuana is not a addiction comodity only, in historical times, it was used to treart Gastric, Appetite, Diabetes, Diarrhoea, Jaundice, Pain-killer as well as Cancer treatment in modern times. Not only this, hemp is a big industry, producing body-care products, health supplements, biodegradable synthetic fibre, boosting economy. According to Washington, marijuana will increase US economy by 3 lakh crore rupees by 2020 (more than GDP of 10 eastern states of India). Just like alcohol is legal but all people are not drunkard, similarly, if marijuana gets legall all people will not start rolling paper, leaving their work. In the countries where Marijuana is legal, Crime regarding synthetic drugs (Cocaine, Heroine) is low, awarness is high and regulation is at place, along with revenew for the Goverment.
