Facebook now requires the installation of its Messenger application to use its messaging function from our cell phones.

The Terms of Service we must agree to in order to download and install this application authorizes Facebook to access our phones, including our cameras, microphones, photographs, contact lists, applications list, call logs anytime they so desire without even bothering to inform us. In the past, the Messenger application was optional, but they just removed that option.

If you don't believe me, then try it for yourself and see. Facebook is far overstepping legitimacy here, and we need to take action to protect our privacy (and to establish a precedent of unwillingness to agree to such ridiculous terms of service).

We, the undersigned, call on Facebook to reverse the requirement of the mandatory installation of the Messenger application on our cellular devices in order to be able to send or to receive Facebook messages.

If Facebook does not respond favorably to this request, we will terminate our use of Facebook on August 21, 2014.
