Mandatory carbon monoxide detectors

Hello Everyone! This petition is dedicated to my son Gabe.

He was born August 11th 1999. He was the greatest thing that could have ever happened to me. He taught me the true meaning of unconditional love. I never expected that he would be taken from me so suddenly.

Gabe passed away on October 25th 1999. He was 2 1/2 months old. When it happened I was told SIDS.. sudden infant death syndrome was the cause. It was 3 months later when I learned that my son was killed by carbon monoxide poisoning.

In 99 carbon monoxide detectors weren't popular and it wasn't a topic that was talked about. I wish it was, to think that a $50 detector could have saved my sons life and my heart from breaking. The only reason I am still here is because I slept with my window open and it takes a higher level to kill an adult.

I lived in an apartment when this happened. I had been telling my landlord that we were having problems with our furnace and water heater, but she blew me off. She has no remorse at all. She took the most precious thing from me and doesn't care. I have made it my goal to educate people about carbon monoxide.

If I can save one person then I will be happy. I am currently trying to start a non profit organization that educates families on carbon monoxide and will help low income and senior citizens purchase the detectors.

I am also trying to get a law passed where carbon monoxide detectors are required in every house. If smoke detectors are required and the law then I believe carbon monoxide detectors should also be required.
