We, the teachers of Mark Twain, have had minutes added to our day that has taken away from our prep time. As it currently exists, our prep time is from 2:55 to 3:15 (20 minutes). All other sites have one hour of prep time.
Prep times:
Bret Harte: 2:15 to 3:15 (1 HOUR)
Fremont: 2:15 to 3:15 (1 HOUR)
Mark Twain: 2:55 to 3:15 (20 MINUTES)
John Muir: Prep period; (1 HOUR)
Corcoran High: Prep period (1 HOUR)
In the 2002-2003 school year, school began at 8:20 and there was a ten minute recess (1:45 to 1:55) at the end of the day. School was dismissed at 2:35. Prep time: 40 minutes
In the 2003-2004 school year, breakfast in the classroom was enforced. School began at 8:08 (12 minutes earlier) and the ten minute recess at the end of the day was taken away. School was still dismissed at 2:35. The lost of 22 minutes was never adjusted as it should have been. Prep time: 40 minutes
(Note: The teachers of Mark Twain agrued the point that minutes were not adjusted for in 2003-2004 but were not listened to by administration.)
The 2004-2005 school year was the same as described in the 2203-2004 school year. Prep time: 40 minutes
In the 2005-2006 school year, school begins at 8:10. There is a 20 minute tutoring/detention period at lunch and the day was adjusted for this by adding 20 minutes on to the end of the day. School is dismissed at 2:55; leaving us with only a 20 minute prep period. Prep time: 20 minutes
(Note: Not all teachers voted to have the 20 minute tutoring/detention added on to the day)
In 2005-2006, school should still have been dismissed at 2:35 making up for the 20 minutes that was lost in the 2003-2004 school year (The two minutes were accounted for by making school start at 8:10 instead of 8:08).
We, the teachers of Mark Twain, are requesting for ONE HOUR of prep time as all other school sites have today.
