Next generation of First Nation Children in care

Many generations of First Nation children suffer detrimental damage caused by the removal from culture, language and family roots. An example of the ever lasting damage caused by this effect was the Residential School System , the 60's/70's scoop and today's generation of First Nation children in care of CAS of on going cycle of abuse to the First Nations Children.

Specifically, Residential School Syndrome involves: recurrent intrusive memories, occasional flashbacks and quite striking avoidance of anything that might be reminiscent of the Indian residential school experience. At the same time there is an emotional detachment from others and relationship difficulties are common. There is often a diminished interest in a participation in aboriginal cultural activities and markedly deficient knowledge of traditional knowledge and skills. Often there is markedly increased arousal including sleep difficulties, anger management difficulties, and impaired concentration.

As might be the case for anyone attending a boarding school with inadequate parenting, parenting skills are often deficient. Strikingly there is a tendency to abuse alcohol or sedative drugs, often starting at a very young age. This is also found with children removed and placed into care of CAS.

Today First Nations children are number one children removed from their homes,culture and placed into the care of CAS across the country.We must take a stand and stop the cycle of the First Nation holocaust!
