The Hills Shire Council as part of its Draft Hills Shire Plan 2013/14, has proposed the construction of a footpath along the length of Ridgecrop Drive, Castle Hill.

We oppose the proposed construction of a footpath along the length of Ridgecrop Drive, Castle Hill.

We were attracted to this area by the fact that most of the infrastructure is not ‘in your face’ and is usually designed and planned to complement this Garden Shire. This is reflected in Ridgecrop Drive in that most residents have ‘adopted’ their nature strip and care for it as if it was their own subsequently planning, planting and constructing their front lawns/gardens and driveways to suite.

A footpath will destroy all that. In the Ridgecrop Drive environment a footpath would be an outstanding piece of unsightliness. White man-made rock against a backdrop of green lawns and cultivated gardens.

With councils adopted Footpath Strategy stating that streets with between 300 and 5000 vehicles per day and up to 200 houses will have a 1.5 metre wide footpath constructed on one side of the road, we wish to point out that the majority of Ridgecrop Drive does not see the required minimum of 300 vehicles per day and that the short sections that do see this minimum already have footpaths constructed.

The length of Ridgecrop Drive currently with no footpath, does not service or provide a through link to any shops, schools, reserves, cycleways or bus stops. Ridgecrop Drive is a loop and fully constructed since at least 1993, there has been no increase in the frequency of traffic in that time.

We wish for the Hills Shire Council to not construct this proposed footpath along Ridgecrop Drive.
