We are opposed to the planning of a new Lidl store in Eastwood on the corner of Progress Road/Rayleigh Road.
This is a busy Industrial area and small industrial units are in short supply. Southend Borough Council have maintained they wish to keep the area industrial and we do not understand how a supermarket fits with that criteria.
In close proximity there are 4 main food stores and over 12 smaller convenience stores, the impact of another supermarket on these businesses will be detrimental.
The development will add to the traffic problems on this already extremely busy junction which has a school opposite.
Lidl will not bring any new business to the area or support any existing businesses in and around the Progress Rd Estate. All Lidl profits will go back to Germany and not compliment the local area. The do say they will create 40 new jobs, what they do not explain is that the majority of these are part time positions.
If you could lend your support by signing this petition we would be extremely grateful.
Many thanks.
We the undersigned are completely opposed to the development of a Lidl store taking place on Progress Road and do not support it in any way.
We would like Southend Council to be aware of our protest by way of this petition.
