No Zoning Change - Community Over-Development Islip Terrace

At the present time, there is an application before the Town Board to change the zoning from Industrial 1 to Business 1 and construct a 14,593 sqft Pharmacy with a drive through. It is located at the Connequot Ave and Lowell Ave intersection in Islip Terrace.

However, there are many problems with this application.

Traffic

This will be the first time that the Town will be knowingly creating an “f” rated intersection, the worst possible rating. traffic will be substantially Increased at an already dangerous intersection, Placing our community and children at risk.

Local economy

The local community can not support the existing Retail with the many empty stores already in our area. By allowing This type of Over-development of retail space it will only add to the urban blight that our down town district already faces.

Changing the face of our Community

We have so much development in our community that this proposed zoning change will permanently change the landscape of our hamlet, to that of an urban center. Is this the Change that we Want? Big box retailers and Big empty Shopping centers which will only hurt the values of our homes.

In the present social and economic times, we should be trying to maintain our identity as a local community, preserve the quality of life in our community and stabilize the current local retail economy. With this proposed application all of these things are at risk.

Now is the time for all the members of the community to let our elected officials know that this zoning change will not be in the community’s best interest.
