Let Your Voice Be Heard!
Lee Memorial Gardens opposes the special use permit for the 1936 Hickory Flats Road property. This property is not owned by Lee Memorial Gardens; however, it adjoins the cemetery on the southeastern end of the cemetery. The special use permit is for the intended purposes of either an automotive salvage yard or an automotive graveyard. Such usage will not only result in a nuisance affecting the use and enjoyment of adjoining landowners and landowners in the general area but unfairly risk detrimental environmental hazards harmful to fellow landowners who utilize and enjoy his or her land for the intended and designated lawful purposes. While specific legal steps must be followed, we believe it’s important for the community to make their voices heard on this matter.

Subject: Opposition to Special Use Permit for 1936 Hickory Flats Road Property

We, the undersigned, are residents and stakeholders in the area surrounding Lee Memorial Gardens and the property located at 1936 Hickory Flats Road. We respectfully submit this petition to express our strong opposition to the issuance of a special use permit for this property, which seeks to authorize its use as either an automotive salvage yard or an automotive graveyard.

Reason for Opposition:

Nuisance to Adjoining Landowners: The proposed use of the 1936 Hickory Flats Road property as an automotive salvage yard or graveyard will create significant nuisance issues. Such activities are likely to result in noise, unsightly conditions, and increased traffic, all of which will negatively impact the quality of life for residents and landowners in the surrounding area, including those adjoining Lee Memorial Gardens.

Environmental and Health Risks: Automotive salvage and graveyard operations pose serious environmental hazards. These activities can lead to hazardous waste disposal, pollution of soil and groundwater, and potential health risks to nearby residents. Our community values its health and safety and is concerned about the detrimental effects such operations could have on our environment and well-being.

Impact on Property Value and Enjoyment: The presence of an automotive salvage yard or graveyard adjacent to our properties will likely decrease property values and diminish the enjoyment of our land. Residents who have invested in maintaining and improving their properties should not be subjected to the negative impacts of such an operation.

Call to Action:

We urge the decision-making authority to deny the special use permit for the property located at 1936 Hickory Flats Road. This decision will help protect the interests of the local community, preserve the environmental integrity of the area, and maintain the quality of life for current and future residents.

We respectfully request that our concerns be taken into account and that the permit application be rejected.
