On the North East corner of Seneca and University developers are planning to build a Tight Ends Sports Bar & Grill. This chain of restaurants is similar to Hooters or Twin Peaks, but the Tight Ends chain has a lot more revealing uniforms and on certain days of the week they have “lingerie night”. The name of the establishment and some menu items are also full of suggestive double entente. Below are links to the Facebook page photos of the existing Tight Ends locations. The location this franchise is being built is in the Delano Neighborhood of Wichita, a neighborhood that is and wishes to remain a family friendly part of Wichita. Delano has worked to establish itself as a destination in Wichita for families to come and enjoy themselves. A Tight Ends Bar and Grill located at what is the main southern Gateway into the Delano Neighborhood would give a negative connotation to every passer by or customer, and suggest that Delano is not a family friendly part of town.
Within 2000 feet of this location are 3 schools (Franklin Elementary School, Alison Middle School, and West High School), Seneca Park, a faith based Senior Assisted Living and Care facility, 6 places of worship, and hundreds of family residences (some single and other multi-unit dwellings).
In a conversation with concerned members of the Delano Community the developers indicated that they do not care about how their business will impact or reflect negatively on the community in which they wish to build. Their primary concern is attracting customers passing by on Kellogg. They were offered alternative ideas such as better more family oriented restaurants which aren't currently in the Wichita area (i.e. Dave & Busters or Cheesecake Factory) or even focusing on the “sports” aspect of a sports bar with referee or umpire uniforms for the servers instead of relying on sexual exploitation of young women to attract customers but they refused to consider any other ideas.
This petition is to show opposition to having such a business in the Delano Neighborhood. By signing this petition you are showing the developers and the City Leaders that you are not happy with the idea of having a business like Tight Ends in the Delano Neighborhood and ask that it either be located elsewhere in Wichita (if the developers are intent on bringing that franchise here) or ask that the risqué elements of the dress and names be replaced with more family friendly options.
