The Uxbridge Road in Hanwell, W7 is a busy bus route with the 207/83/427/E8 bus routes crossing the junction along the Uxbridge road and the E3 bus turning from the Uxbridge Road into Church Road here.

When the E3 stops close to the junction at the bus stop next to St Mellitus Church in Church Road the traffic trails back into the junction itself, causing even more confusion and difficulty, and more stress for pedestrians trying to cross.

This junction is very busy and dangerous, and it is frankly shocking that there is not yet a pedestrian phase to the lights here. There are many reports of road traffic accidents involving pedestrians at this junction.

This is a major crossing point for students and pupils at four Primary Schools, a Nursery School, and two High Schools. There are also a number of day nurseries close by, and a Special School. As well as unaccompanied students, parents need to get across the road at this junction with pushchairs, toddlers, young children, and possibly wheelchairs.

There are two churches at the junction itself, Our Lady and St Joseph's RC Church and St Mellitus with St Mark Anglican Parish Church, and Hanwell Methodist Church is a very short distance from the junction northwards on Church Road. The congregations from all three churches use this busy junction when attending services.

The junction marks the gateway to Hanwell's main shopping/restaurant area on the Uxbridge Road and Boston Road, so the foot traffic of shoppers and people undertaking evening leisure activities is high.

We, the undersigned, want a safe pedestrian 'green man' phase to the traffic lights at the junction of Uxbridge Road with Church Road/St George's Road in Hanwell W7.
