Petição para produtos alimentares Portugueses no Tesco - Petition for portuguese food products in Tesco

O Gabinete de Estatísticas do Reino Unido calcula que existam a volta de 101 mil portugueses residents no Reino Unido. Destes, cerca de 86 mil tenham nascido em Portugal e os restantes tenham nascido em outras partes do mundo. Como grupo étnico os Portugueses estão a numero 11 numa lista das 60 nacionalidades mais populares no Reino Unido. Por isso estamos acima de Espanha, Itália, e Grecia. No entanto, a maioria dos nossos produtos nacionais, por exemplo comida, não se encontram à venda nos supermercados Britânicos, enquanto que produtos Espanhois, Italianos e Gregos são mais populares. Apenas me deparei com Super-Bock e certos vinhos à venda no tesco, e Pasteis de Nata à venda no Café Nero.

Esta petição servirá para pedir ao Tesco, o qual é a maior companhia de distribuição alimentar no Reino Unido, para disponibilizarem os nossos produtos portugueses nas suas lojas, para que estes sejam mais acessiveis nas nossas localidades.

Por favor assinem e passem o link desta página a outros portugueses, ou mesmo pessoas que não sejam portuguesas mas que estejam interessados em que o Tesco tenha a nossa comida bem representada nos seus supermercados.

The latest evaluation by the Office of National Statistics (ONS, 2010) estimates a total of 101,000 Portuguese nationals living in the UK, and amongst these 86,000 were born in Portugal. Portuguese nationals are also in 11th position, on a list of the 60 most common nationalities in the UK, very much above those nationals of Spain, Italy and Greece. Furthermore in areas like the East Midlands and South West of England Portuguese nationals are amongst the 5 most common ethnic groups.

Portuguese people living in the UK thus have a large consumer power, and in particular since 71% of recent Portuguese immigrants to the UK of working age are employed (compared to 73% for British born people regardless of race or ethnic background). Of these, 13% earn about £149.20 a week, while 2.68% are high earners, which is more than £750 per week (compared to 6.98% for British-born people).

However, Portuguese food and produce is very much under-represented in UK market, especially when compared to products of Spanish, Italian or Greek origin. At present, Tesco sells Portuguese beer "Super-Bock" and several brands of wine, and Cafe Nero sells Portuguese Custard Tarts (Pastel de Nata). No other type of Portuguese Food can be found in UK food retailers, although Portuguese food and products are on high demand amongst Portuguese nationals.

Portuguese people are willing to access these products locally, instead of having to travel for hundreds of miles to purchase them in towns where the concentration of Portuguese people originated the rise of small cafes and retailers that sell Portuguese products with little quality and price control. As such, there is a clear market for the products on request below to be sold at Tesco PLC.
