Petition to make Asuka Tower a non-smoking tower

Bottom Line Up Front:
If you are tired, like me, of you or your children inhaling the second-hand smoke which seeps in through the vents and windows in your government assigned housing throughout the day and leadership not taking appropriate measures to protect the health of non-smoking residents, sign this petition. I intend on providing it to the Base Commander and further up the chain if required.

If you are a smoker, for the sake of others in the spaces around you, please do not smoke in your balcony or near intake vents such as the tower entrance. Your second-hand smoke is getting into intake vents and affecting the air quality and health of your neighbors. Furthermore, opening windows to ventilate does not help since the smoke is also rising from your balconies outside.

Background:
- On a daily basis, families at Asuka Tower (and other towers) are exposed to second hand smoke from residents smoking in their balconies or near vents which supply air throughout the towers.

From the CDC Fact Sheet:
- Nonsmokers who are exposed to secondhand smoke at home or at work increase their risk of developing lung cancer by 20–30%.
- Secondhand smoke causes more than 7,300 lung cancer deaths among U.S. nonsmokers each year.
- Nonsmokers who are exposed to secondhand smoke are inhaling many of the same cancer-causing substances and poisons as smokers.
- Even brief secondhand smoke exposure can damage cells in ways that set the cancer process in motion.
- As with active smoking, the longer the duration and the higher the level of exposure to secondhand smoke, the greater the risk of developing lung cancer.
