We are at the edge of losing one of our dazzling world heritages. Bridged canyon located next to Antalya Serik Değirmenözü village, is now under danger of HPP construction, will result in destroying biologically rich and productive lowland and riverine valley forests, marshland and grasslands. The loss of this gorgeous canyon will be exacerbated by the fact that reservoirs cause habitat fragmentation of surrounding areas.
Considering there won't be substantial productivity after this hydroelectric power plant construction, it will be more reasonable to protect this area both in terms of ecosystem and tourism.
Dear esteemed council members of Turkish Government,
Although we already know the importance of great demands of energy in rapid developing Turkey, we urge you to seek alternative ways of energy rather than Hydroelectric Power Plants' construction specifically on these historically and culturally important sites, as such LOC in Antalya. Our country has many spectacular places which deserves to be protected and handed over to our next generations safely, and we believe that LOC is one of them.
Large reservoirs will submerge extensive areas upstream of the dams and destroy biologically rich and productive lowland and riverine valley forests, marshland and grasslands in the bridged canyon of LOC. Also this HPP generation will take its toll downstream river environment, leading to scouring of river beds and loss of riverbanks.
Changes in the amount of river flow will result in many creatures to become extinct or under danger. Moreover, we cannot estimate the number of people who will have to be physically displaced as a direct result of this construction.
Considering there won't be substantial productivity after this hydroelectric power plant construction, it will be more reasonable to protect this area both in terms of ecosystem and tourism. We kindly ask you reconsider construction of this project not to submerge this beautiful countryside and urge you to move it to another site or seek other energy generation methods.
