During the build up to Homecoming Scotland there was not enough done to promote tourism within Burns Corridor: Ayrshire, Dumfriesshire and Kirkcubrightshire.
This is a strip of land where Robert Burns was born, where he grew up, wrote, loved, married, fathered, where he died and was laid to rest. Connections with Irvine in Ayrshire, through numerous towns and villages, to Gretna in Dumfriesshire. There are at least 30 other iconic figures from within this corridor, so there places of interest for more than Burns fans. As you know, there are several "Burns" places of interest and if the name of the Ayrshire airport were to be changed to the "Robert Burns National Airport" it would be a magnificent advertisement, benefiting everyone.
The owners of Glasgow Prestwick Airport say that the word Glasgow is included so that businesses know where abouts in Scotland the airport is situated. In other words no-one knows where Burns Country is situated. Then isn't it time we let people know where Burns Corridor is?
We, the undersigned, call on those in charge of tourism in south west Scotland to promote Ayrshire, Dumfriesshire and Kirkcudbightshire as: Burns Corridor. To build on the 250th anniversary of Robert Burns' birth to promote all places of interest within Burns Corridor especially Ayrshire's airport: The Robert Burns International Airport, Prestwick.
Burns Corridor is Ayrshire, Dumfriesshire and Kirkcudbrightshire, not just Ayr and Dumfries.
