Now is the time to get a safe and quiet Pring Street free from ‘rat run’ traffic.
Following a successful petition against a proposed roundabout, Brisbane City Council (BCC) traffic management department is considering new options for the Andrew Avenue - Pring Street intersection. BCC must upgrade this intersection so now is the time to put forward a solution we want.
In reference to a phone conversation I had with Cr Krista Adams on 15 November, BCC may install a T-Splitter intersection instead of the rejected roundabout (a T-Splitter is what exists at the Windmill Street - Pring Street intersection). This is not a solution which will slow down or reduce traffic flow along Pring Street - as it does not achieve this at Windmill Street. This plan would only serve to prevent cars cutting corners and allow for a safer pedestrian crossing. The real solution to this long term debate is to prevent ‘rat run’ traffic flow to achieve a safe and quiet residential street.
I hope to rally your support, and that of fellow Tarragindi residents, to propose an island barricade, as per a plan which was put forward as an option in 2012. This traffic management plan would effectively divide the street at Andrew Avenue and prevent ‘rat run’ traffic. As an example, it would be similar to the Pope Street - Andrew Avenue intersection.
The only way for this to be considered by BCC is a petition, like this one, to be presented at a Council meeting by Cr Adams. Given the current timing, on the back of the roundabout petition, we have a very good chance of getting our case heard. Furthermore, Cr Adams is not supportive of the T-Splitter alternative.
The next and final Council meeting for the year is on 4 December. I’m aiming to lodge this petition or at least notify Cr Adams of its progress to delay any decision making until 2019.
Let's end this long historical debate that has haunted Pring Street residents for years.
Help us to get this supported for Tarragindi.
We, the undersigned, support for an island barricade at the Pring Street and Andrew Avenue intersection to prevent 'rat run' traffic.
