We the undersigned hereby affirm the proposed school build on the PARC AREAL GRIFFIN (DESIGNATED AS A LOCAL NATURE RESERVE), SIX BELLS COLLIERY for which an application has been made will seriously harm the diverse wildlife of the site, also it removes the only play area for children and families of the area and the site has also become a tourist attraction.
Having viewed the plans, we feel sure that this development would be seriously harmful to the mosaic of habitats such as acid grasslands, hay meadows, wet mire heath, swamp and open water contains a huge diversity of plant life , Many species particularly the otters which we have seen playing on the green field area also birds can be seen in the valleys such as Buzzards, Kestrel herons, Nocule and Pipsistrelle Bats in Summer. also newts grass snakes frogs toads rabbits hedgehogs, Pygmy & Common shrews, Short tailed voles, Wood Mice and squirrels all inhabit PARC AREAL GRIFFIN.(I would have thought they would have been protected by Nature Reserve Status awarded to this site by the Welsh Assembly).
We also feel very strongly that siting the school on Chapel Road is dangerous for the children and for motorists due to the road being so narrow also the junction with Bridge Street would become even more chaotic and dangerous.
Suggestion: Why couldn't the disused council site of the old Abertillery Bowls Center in Vivian Street be used for the school?
We, the undersigned, call on Head of Education Transformation and Performance
Education Directorate and the Planning Dept., of Blaenau Gwent Council to reject this application.
