The laws that define a gang are currently determined by each individual local and state governments. This makes going after a gang as a whole very difficult and even more difficult to disassemble a gang. There are over 27,000 gangs in the United States, with over 778,000 members.
These gangs are formed for nothing more than violence, control, fear, intimidation and of course criminal activity. We need to change the law where the Federal government sets one definition of a gang, one that more resembles that of organized crime. Lets get real, get serious, and get rid of the problem.
We the undersigned call on the Department of Justice to set forth one criminal definition of a criminal gang to be used by all forms of law enforcement.
