Alexis Mera has worked as the legal attorney of President Rafael Correa he has been an intricate part of the systematic destruction of democratic institutions in Ecuador; financing of Correa's campaign even by the FARC guerrillas, He has initiated the persecution of political activist, reporters, and anyone from the opposition. Mera does not represent nor respect democratic values and in support of Correa tried to institute a tyrannical government in Ecuador. There are ample reports of many instances where Mera was involved even in intimidation and strategies to destroy Indian villages and tribes because they were opposed to mining deals of the Correa administration. Someone as corrupt as Mera does not have any respect for democratic values and should not be welcome as Ambassador to the USA.
We, the undersigned call on the United States president, all members of Congress and the Senate, and all members of the Supreme Court of the United States of America not to accept Alexis Mera as Ambassador of Ecuador to the USA.
