Ever since the christmas lights were put up all year round in Zurich I have heard people complaining about it. So I decided I should do something about it. When I e-mailed the Municipality I found out it has been recomended by the Chamber of Commerce that they either be taken down or maintained. As of yet there has been no action taken. However, if we the community take voice our opinion against the christmas lights, action may be taken sooner.
This petition is a statement by the community that the year round christmas lights should be taken down. These lights are costly. Althought we have not yet had to pay for expenses due to maintenance, as there has been none whatsoever, we still have to pay for the electricity used to power the lights. This electricity should be being conserved. The provincial government has asked us all to conserve energy, the town should set an example. Finally, the year round christmas decorations remove even more meaning from the already distorted modern image of christmas by exposing us to it at every moment. By signing this petition you firmly believe that the christmas lights of zurich should be removed and put back to proper use.
