Renationalise the Railways

Public transport should be for the benefit of the public, not for corporate shareholders. We believe that our railways should be publicly owned, public run and accountable to government and the people.

With the right investment and the right political will, our railways can be as cheap and efficient as those in neighbouring countries.

Our railways are run by franchises that expire and allow the state to run them, just as the East Coast Mainline has been run. It costs nothing to put our railways back into public hands, it only needs political will.
