Over the last couple of years there has been problems with the infield on the Tyendinaga ball Diamonds (or some people know them as the shannonville diamonds).
The infield seems to have a problem of turning into a beach (up to 6-7" of soft sand in places) after a couple of games are played, meaning they need to be repaired. These diamonds were re-done a couple of years ago and since then there has been this problem.
The person who was in charge of the diamonds did not have the proper ratio of the mixture to lay on the infield and in turn, made the infield too soft and hazardous. After talking to the person who runs the diamonds directly, she had notified me that she has had nothing but good comments about the diamonds, but she also knows of the infield problem and she won't go ahead and have the diamonds looked at by a professional to see what they need to fix them. She thinks the diamonds are in perfect working order!!
In order for adults leagues to play on these diamonds, they should be repaired before playing on them. I would like to start a petition stating that the Tyendinaga community and members of the slo-pitch community would like to have the diamonds look at by a professional and hopefully repaired.
This in turn could promote slo-pitch on the Reserve and have baseball/softball in general brought back to the Reserve.
We, the undersigned call on the Tyendinaga Band Council to have the baseball fields at the recreation complex, on Tyendinaga Mohahk Territory repaired so that the infields are properly prepared and are up to standards with other fields alike.
