St Ives will shortly be informed by Penwith Council of the services which will be
transfered to local control when the District Councils are taken over by the
County Wide Unitary Authority.
It is estimated that the annual income from the St Ives car parks and beaches
etc is in the region of two million pounds. These assets were passed to Penwith
Council for safe keeping when the St Ives Borough was dissolved. Now that
Penwith is to be dissolved, St Ives and it’s people should regain local control of
those assets and properties which have traditionally belonged to St Ives for
many hundreds of years.
A town with the reputation and profile of St Ives should benefit from the
ongoing reinvestment of this income to maintain the infrastructure and raise
both the quality of life for the residents and the experience for the visitors.
We ask our Mayor and Council to seek the Urgent return of all those assets
formerly held and controlled by St Ives Borough Council.
