To the Honourable President and members of the Senate in Parliament assembled:
The petition of the undersigned shows:
We are concerned that the current order of wearing of Australian Awards is demeaning to ex-service men and women. The Public Service Medal has post-nominals (PSM) and is senior to Military Bravery, Conspicuous Service and Campaign medals. We are absolutely outraged that a member of the Public Service is entitled to an award more senior to a service person that has probably been in a designated War Zone and more likely than not, shot at.
Your petitioners ask/request that the Senate:
Take the necessary action to rectify the grievance associated with the seniority of Honours and Awards by placing Civilian Awards below Military Awards but ahead of Foreign Awards on the Order of Wearing.
This request only applies to Civilian Service type awards and not to Bravery Awards. A suggested Order of Wearing is attached as Annex A. The Current Order of Wearing is attached as Annex B.
