We, the student body, feel that the said amount of $75.00 is an extensive price for a prom when considering the median of the net income of households in the Jackson County area to be $32,020. This is including the metro areas.
We live in an area where rarely do both parents work and most students only have one parent. When considering all of the factors, we feel that $75.00 should be subject to negotiation or students should have the option to break this up into payments over the junior/ senior year. We want to pay no more than $35.00 per year. We will not pay the two years together for the sum of $75.00. North Sand Mountain is a public school for children.
Some are even on state’s assistance and reduced or free meals at school. We do not want to be deprived of this opportunity to attend our prom due to lack of funds. We, the student body, as a whole will forfeit the prom all together less the fee is cut in half.
We will not pay $75.00 for the 2011 Junior/ Senior prom. We will have a price negotiated to better fit our budget.
We wish to pay a maximum of $35.00 per year, due each year and not 2 years in full. We, as a whole, will forfeit our prom unless these terms are met.
