The temperatures in TDCJ Facilities are unbearable. There is no a/c except for a group of select medical problems. My son said it gets 115 degrees in his unit in Huntsville. There have been heat related deaths in prisons. Not only are inmates falling out from the heat but so are the guards.
One friend's husband is a diabetic, 63 years old and had heart surgery while incarcerated. He was not eligible for an a/c building. When she questioned it she was told the a/c buildings are for spinal cord injuries only.
Please include your city and state when signing the petition. Folks, if we ban together we can do something about the summer heat and lack of winter heat.
I pray that you may look into some type of prison reform that will affect the unbearable temperatures in TDCJ Facilities. There have been heat related deaths in TDCJ Facilities.
Inmates requiring medical attention for serious medical issues are denied a/c housing as it is reserved for spinal cord injuries. I would question why there are so many spinal cord injuries in Texas prisons. People incarcerated have made mistakes and are paying the price for them. Rehabilitation is difficult enough without dealing with such temperatures.
Everyone on this petition request that you look into the situation and see what can be done. If not A/C perhaps water cooling fans or something similar.
