On 8/3/2011 Dog walkers witnessed a dog being run over outside Glasgow Green Park on Greendyke Street. The car did not stop. This could just as easily have been a child or any other pedestrian.
Crossing the road along Greendyke Street poses great risk and potential danger to pedestrians due to the volume of cars using the road and the speed of many of the cars ‘racing’ the lights where the road joins Saltmarket.
Also there is no give way from Turnbull Street to Greendyke Street and vehicles often race out of the junction or other drivers race along Greendyke Street to prevent vehicles from Turnbull Street pulling in front of them.
The ‘on street’ parking either side of the street also adds to the danger as families blindly step out from between parked cars then dart between traffic to cross over.
Walkers and their dogs run in front of on coming vehicles to get to the other side.
We want Glasgow City Council to conduct a review of the safety of pedestrians that use Glasgow Green and consider adding speed bumps or additional pedestrian crossings adjacent to the park entrances so we can all get to the park safely.
We, the undersigned want Glasgow City Council to conduct a review of the safety of pedestrians using Glasgow Green and consider adding speed bumps or additional pedestrian crossings adjacent to the park entrances on Greendyke Street so we can all get to and from our local park without risking our lives or the lives of those we love.
