21 Withrow Ave is a heritage home on over 2 acres of beautiful treed land. It is a cornerstone of our neighbourhood, City View, in Ottawa, Ontario. The house was built in 1842 and predates anything in City View As well as the City of Ottawa. It was built by the Scott family and has also been home to a Confederation poet William Wilfred Campbell. Prime Minister William Lyon Mackenzie King once spent time at 21 Withrow with his friend William Campbell. Dr David Roger then lived there until his death in 2015. This home and it's property is an important piece of Canadian history and very much a vital part of the character of our neighbourhood. The community is trying to save the property from a developers shovel which could bring anything from condos and town homes to low/mid rise apartments, condoned by the city. 21 Withrow Ave could be saved as a heritage property, a community/cultural centre with a beautiful passive community park. This would help City View acquire some much needed parkland. This is the last piece of green space available and City View has the lowest ratio of homes to parkland in the entire City.
We the undersigned, call on Rick Chiarelli and the City of Ottawa to acquire the property and heritage home at 21 Withrow Ave. This property would then be used by City View and surrounding communities. It would be a great cultural/historic centre. It would also help to increase the parkland ratio in the City View neighbourhood which now has one of the lowest ratios in the City of Ottawa. This property has great cultural and historical significance that should and could then be enjoyed by all Canadians.
