According to our new Deputy Prime Minister the current benefits system which Labour introduced is “madness”. The current system entitles families earning up to £60,000 a year to benefit handouts and needs a shake up as it entitles 90 per cent of families to tax credit, this is fair enough but don’t make everyone suffer, there is being reasonable and then there is being dam right stupid.
Although both the Tories and Liberal Democrats went into the election pledging reductions in tax credits, the Coalition want to go much further, cutting all payments to families with a combined income of more than £30k Gross per annum. The coalition policy would save about £1.3billion a year, but about 2.million families would be cut off.
Combined with the planned rise in VAT to 20% and possibly a rise in National insurance or tax how do they expect the working people to survive? I urge you please support this petition to stop Family Tax credits being pillaged and to support the earnings threshold to be reviewed and set at a more realistic figure.
We the undersigned ask the Government to reconsider introducing a £30k threshold on receiving Family Tax credit and to review the system criteria and eligibility more carefully based on family income and expenditure.
