The University of Leicester's Student Union plans to close The Queens Hall in the Percy Gee Building on the University's main campus, a 58 year old, 500 capacity venue that has hosted performances by countless artists, including Bob Marley, Led Zeppelin and The Cure, as well as theatrical and musical groups from the student body and local population of Leicester, and continues to be used in this manner to this day.
These plans are in their early stages and it is currently unclear what, if anything, will replace the Queens Hall as a performance venue.
The Queens Hall MUST be kept open. It is a beautiful and beloved venue, and is important to the cultural life of the university and the city of Leicester.
We, the undersigned, call on Leicester University's Student Union to abandon its plans to close the University's iconic Queens Hall, on the grounds that it is still regularly used by performers and other groups, is one of the few remaining concert halls in the city, and is an important part of the University's heritage, and the heritage and culture of Leicester.
