Royal mail wishes to close the Mail Sorting Office in Chatteris. In order to pick up undelivered parcels or mail residents will have to make a round trip of about 18- 20 miles to collect their mail/parcels from an office in the nearest town.
This is not so easy to do living in Chatteris because Bus transport has been drastically cut and there is the suggestion that what buses there are would not get visitors to the next town at the right time to coincide with sorting office opening hours.
There is also the "green issue" to be considered - this cut will cause more unnecessary car journeys along with extra expense to residents of the town.
We the undersigned ask that Royal Mail reconsider their decision to close the sorting office in Chatteris.
The closure of the office will result in much inconvenience to local residents who will have a round trip of over 18-20 miles to get to the nearest sorting office to collect undelivered mail or parcels.
The current lack of public transport will mean that many residents both young and old will be hugely disadvantaged Those that do have access to transport to collect will be loosing time and money through the proposed change. Don't allow yet another service to the public slip away from Chatteris.
