Palm Beach County is proposing a 60 to 90 bed homeless shelter to be located at the current office spaces of 1000, 45th St. W.Palm Beach, FL. The County had made this proposal without any analysis to impact on surrounding communities.
There are numerous neighborhoods in the backyard of this proposed location and an elementary school almost immediately behind this address. The 45th St. corridor of rehabilitative services is quickly becoming a depositing grounds for all communities of our very large County. With no funds to build other proposed HRC's in the West and South, it may be very well that this will be the only one for some time, serving all of the Palm Beaches.
With this in consideration, we are asking the County to find a more suitable location, especially one that does not infringe on a "A" rated elementary school, whose students are the most vulnerable of our community.
We, the residents of West Palm Beach, by signing this petition are asking the Planning Board for the County of Palm Beach to find a more suitable location for the Homeless Resource Center that is proposed for the address of 1000 45th St., WPB.
We believe that this location would place an unfair and unnecessary burden to an already stressed community that is overloaded with multiple rehabilitative services for the homelss, needy, chemically dependent, and mentally ill.
