On January 9th, 2018, Provo City Council will be voting to surplus (sell) property on the East Bay Golf Course, specifically holes 10, 11 and 12 for development. For the past 12 months or so, former Mayor Curtis and others have been meeting behind closed doors with Wasatch Educational to build a private medical school, retail, and other developments. During the last few months, the City Council has been in discussions concerning this proposal and except for one Councilman, agree that this proposal would be a good thing for Provo.
The public was first given the opportunity for input on Dec. 5th during the last hours of the scheduled Council meeting where over 40 citizens expressed their concerns and spoke out in favor of retaining the golf course as it currently exists. Even with this opposition, the Council voted to rush the vote to the next regularly scheduled meeting Jan 9th, 2018.
We need to stop this proposal NOW! This petition will give further notice to the Council that residents who love and use this treasured golf course are willing to fight for this uniquely valued place as it provides open space, recreational activities, and is part of the natural and cultural history of Provo.
