The Daughters of the Republic of Texas have done an excellent job in preserving and taking care of the Alamo for the 106 years they have been custodians. The Alamo has been free of charge to visit and no expense to the taxpayers all these years. Most likely the site would have been demolished if the DRT had not stepped in and helped preserve the Alamo. They have preserved the Alamo for generations and for generations to come. Now the State of Texas wants to take over the Alamo, charge admission and have taxpayers pay for the care of the Alamo.
We, the undersigned, are concerned Texans, United States citizens and World Wide visitors who urge our leaders to act now to leave the Alamo in the custodianship of the DRT as provided for in House Bill 1, 106 years ago.
There should be no admission charge to the Alamo Shrine as provided for by law in 1911. The Alamo should continue to be operated by the DRT, and at no cost to taxpayers and all visitors as it has been for 106 years.
