Lightner Museum is housed in the former Alcazar Hotel built in 1888 by Henry Flagler. Today it is home to one of the best collections of fine and decorative 19th century art in the country.
The Museum is open to the public seven days a week and features self-guided tours, tours by reservation for adults and children, and demonstrations of antique mechanical musical instruments. The Museum is also available for weddings and events.
Also hidden in plain sight amongst the local shops, tourists, and attractions is The Florida Department of Corrections affiliate office. Meaning every working day the public, tourists, families and children all mingle together unknowingly with convicted felons. A collection of drug offenders, sex offenders, pedophiles, and other proven criminals populate at a known a very profitable tourist location.
Local schools as well as children from all over this world visit to Saint Augustine Florida with their families everyday. While touring our beautiful Lightner Museum, guests to our town are be subjected to the company of offenders as they report to their respected Officers of probation.
We, the undersigned, call upon the City of Saint Augustine to eliminate, remove, and relocate the Florida Department of Corrections from within the Lightner Museum Building. For the decency of families, children, and tourists to our beloved town.
