Save the Magnolia Tree!

I propose that the Magnolia tree not be felled to accommodate the unnecessary building of an outdoor theatre. I propose that, instead, benches should be put around the tree and the grass be made more accessible as a social area as the Magnolia tree is one of the most beautiful features of Bruton School for Girls.

Building an Amphitheatre (which, given British weather will be almost entirely unusable) would not only be unnecessary but costly. Would that money not be better spent making the area more suitable for socialising? It's a truly breathtaking tree, especially when the blossoms are out, and I think that the school would benefit far more from it as an accessible area to talk, laugh and perhaps, in future, have post concert refreshments in good weather.

In conclusion, I would like it very much if you could sign this petition to help me to stop the felling of a beautiful magnolia tree to built an amphitheatre. Bruton, frankly does not have the weather for an outdoor theatre, and we do not need one as a new theatre is currently being developed in the Hobhouse studio. I, and students and staff who I have talked to, have agreed that this would be an unnecessary development, and that the magnolia tree is too beautiful to be cut down.
