Shuttle Service For MCPHS Worcester

A large issue that has been brought up at several SGA meetings is the issue of student safety. The problem lies in the fact that most students at MCPHS have to travel to the university to attend classes. For many, there is still a 1 mile walk to school from their assigned parking spot. The walk down Main or Major Taylor is often treacherous due to the busy intersections.

In addition, when students are studying late at the Foster or Lincoln buildings, people feel unsafe walking that distance by themselves. Though the security guards have been able to escort students at times, often they have much more pressing issues on their hands or aren't able to leave their desk stations.

A very easy and most logical fix to these problems would be implementing a shuttle service running on a fixed schedule for the Worcester campus. Especially with the impending closure of the Union Station parking lot, there will be a much greater concentration of students travelling between Lincoln, Foster, and the Morgan parking lots.

A shuttle service running between those locations as well as the Salisbury and Lancaster Street apartments will be a necessity for our students to feel safer in the Worcester community as well as be more willing to utilize on campus parking options.

Shuttle services are utilized by almost all other Consortium schools in the Worcester area. This is a need that must be met for the MCPHS student and administrative population.

Let's not wait for tragedy to strike before we decide to do something about it. Prevention is the best means of protection.
