All people of conscience believe that no person should be bound to suffer injustice, violence and discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity.
It is the duty of the State to protect all its citizens without regard to color, cultural affiliation or gender.
Pursuant to the Universal Declaration on Human Rights, all people are born free and equal in rights and in dignity. It is for this reason that we call upon the Provincila leaders of Ilocos Sur to act swiftly on these issues.
Over the years, the Ilocos Rainbow Alliance has seen an upsurge of incidents related to gender-based violence and hate crime against LGBT people particularly trans individuals.Most of these reported cases have been left unresolved until now.
We need to seek justice for everyone who have fallen victims to this violence. The recent addition to the growing list of victims is that of Rommel "MHELAI" CABRERA.
We have lost promising people because of ignorance and hatred. This has to stop now.
