Indonesia's Minister for the Environment says: "...Indonesia will not overcome illegal logging without stemming the foreign demand for Indonesian logs and forestry products."

Contact Elliot Morley at DEFRA, who has responsibility for dealing with this issue, and ask him what he is doing to push for an EU wide ban on the import of illegally logged timber. The world's ancient forests are in crisis - 80% have already been destroyed or degraded.
Illegal logging is closely associated with violence, corruption, environmental destruction, and human rights abuses.

It is estimated that this trade costs producer countries 10-15 billion euros a year in lost revenue. The UK is one of the largest importers of illegal timber in Europe. European legislation to ban the import of timber that is illegally sourced is essential to tackle the illegal timber trade. Becouse if we don't start help stop this the we are putting a death secentence on the world and the people and the animals on it.
