Cycle jackets are essential in helping other road users see cyclists. They contain high vis reflective strips to enhance visibility, but fundamentally most manufacturers insist on having jackets in jet black. Despite the high vis stickers, this means that more than 80% of the rider is black - not at all visible. For example, the Altura Night Vision Jacket...in black.
The use of lights on the bike and rider is an obvious aid to making the rider visible, but by far the most surface area available to maximise visibility is the rider's jacket.
Unfortunately, a lot of riders would rather wear black and be nearly invisible than wear the high vis colours available - purely for fashion.
This petition is aimed at encouraging the manufacturers to stop making dark coloured jackets and encourage riders to make themselves visible.
