The local fishermen feel the hybrid trout being stocked at this time by the Department of Fish and Wildlife are detrimental to the native fish population. We would ask the Dept to consider stocking native fish.
To Fishery Director Benjy Kinman:
We the undersigned have concerns about the native fish population of the Russel Fork of the Big Sandy River from Elkhorn City, Ky to the Kentucky stateline. Over a three to four year period of time the native fish population has dropped to a very low level.
We feel that the hybrid trout being stocked is eating the native fish eggs and has been harmful to the native fish population. We hope you will consider stocking some of the native fish: smallmouth bass, redeye bass, walleye, crayfish, and catfish. We the undersigned Thank You.
