The state Department of Transportation expressed concerns about the idea. Some House members worried that it would lead to accidents."

We, the undersigned, are asking co-sponsors, Rep. Rayne Brown, Lexington (R) and Rep. Jeff Elmore, North Wilkesboro (R) to withdraw the bill allowing drivers, at their own discretion, to cross the double yellow lines NCDOT has put on roads for safety due to limited visibility or conditions.
This bill, allowing the passing of slower vehicles (determined by the driver), cyclists, and horses on the road will endanger our NC population.
In a time where inattentive (texting, cell phones) and inexperienced younger drivers are on the road, to do anything to decrease the possibility of extra danger is extremely short sighted and irresponsible. One co-sponsor notes his district has a lot of truck drivers it would help out -- but he does not indicate the cost to public safety.
There is no benefit to this bill for the majority of our NC folks.
