Over the last 10 years, Scots College has grown by over 30%. Every time it puts in a DA to Woollahra Council, it states that it will not be increasing the number of students or staff as a result of this application. But it has become the fastest growing school in the Eastern Suburbs.
Their DA559/2013/1 to shift their 80 preschool students into 19 Kambala Rd Bellevue Hill, is the same in a long list of DA’s that has allowed the school to continue its growth by stealth.
There is no intention:
1. to provide and internal student drop-off or pick up
2. to provide on-site parking.
Given the current traffic and parking chaos on our streets, Scots must be held accountable for solving the mess it created prior to Woollahra Council approving any of its DA’s.
Scots have declared that this DA (which is virtually identical to a DA they submitted 2 years ago), has been submitted with the intention of taking the decision out of the hands of the Council and fighting the Council and neighbours in the Land and Environment Court. Thus the good intentions of the Council when they said this DA would not be assessed until they had created a proper Master Plan and Traffic Management Plan in consultation with the residents, is being arrogantly dismissed by Scots.
For the sake of the safety of the children who attend the school on a daily basis and the surrounding neighbours, Woollahra Council must draw a line in the sand and not approve this DA until Scots solves the problems it has created as a result of its massive growth.
We the undersigned call on Woollahra Council not to approve Scots’ DA559/2013/1 which requests the expansion of its Mansion Rd campus via the building work and the rezoning of the Kambala Rd residence to an 80 child preschool.
Scots must provide the traffic management infrastructure to solve the current traffic chaos.
We also request that if Scots take this matter to the Land and Environment Court, that the Council defends the matter to ensure the safety of the children and amenity of the local residents.
