We insist the application for the Exploits River Gravel/Sand Quarry (Registration #1477) submitted by Penney Paving Ltd. be refused.
This operation will destroy the viability of the Exploits River from Badger to Grand Falls as a tourist attraction. The operation of a gravel pit in the proposed location will force the immediate shut down of Red Indian Adventures (O/A Riverfront Chalets & Rafting Newfoundland), a luxury accommodation and river rafting company that has been operating on the river for 13 years.
The irreversible damage to the environment and the noise produced by the gravel crusher will prevent future tourism businesses from operating on the river, thus destroying the public's access to the greatest river in Newfoundland.
We, the undersigned, insist that the Department of the Environment refuse the application put forth on behalf of Penney Paving Ltd. for the Exploits River Gravel/Sand Quarry (Registration #1477).
