At the start of 2011, Cabinet Members of Greenwich Council will vote on whether to proceed with plans to part-pedestrianise the town centre that will result in the implementation of a 1.8km one-way dual carriage traffic gyratory system through the heart of the West Greenwich Conservation Area.
This is contrary to the vast amounts of money being invested by TfL and other enlightened London Council's who are removing such failed 1960's gyratories as found at Wandsworth, Aldgate, Brixton, New Cross and even Picadilly after the pedestrianisation of Trafalgar Square.
Gyratories are proven to create speeding in the good times, increased congestion in the bad times, rat-running through residential roads, severance of local communities and destruction of businesses.
We, the undersigned, have not been adequately consulted on the Council's plans to pedestrianise the town centre and wholly oppose the introduction of the proposed one-way gyratory system through West Greenwich.
