Stop the Mosque Gympie

PETITION

Chief Petitioner: S. Betts, Administrator, 3 Drennan Pde, Strathpine, 4500

Nature of Petition: We the undersigned respectfully request Gympie Regional Council to address residents and community concerns about intrusions and impacts that the Islamic Mosque at 9 Lady Mary Terrace will incur and seek that the Mosque be stopped. Finally, we request all future places of worship within Gympie Regional Council jurisdiction, be Impact Accessed and Public Consultation be undertaken before approval is granted.

This site is zoned for residential living. Therefore, a mosque is not conducive with the residential zoning it has been given. An Impact Assessment and Public Consultation needs to be undertaken before any mosque is allowed on this site.

Issues that residents and the Community will experience are:

Negative impacts on the local neighborhood

1. Public Safety: A mosque attracts Islamic followers and anti-Islamic groups. This will attract increased violence and protests. Mosques can attract terrorism, crime, Islamic Development and promote Islamic fundamentalism.

2. Threats:

Clashes between anti-Islamic protesters, neighbors and worshippers occur at Mosques and police have to attend to disturbances.This situation creates fear & discord within the local community.

3. Property Devaluation

Mosques clash with residential settings. Therefore, residents are concerned that their properties will be devalued because of it’s presence.

4. Noise pollution:

Residents will be subjected to loud music calling followers to prayer. As well, if renovations are undertaken the public are subjected to excessive noise.

5. Traffic congestion:

The Mosque parking is inadequate, therefore, parking will spill over onto footpaths and block entry access to nearby resident’s homes.

7. Clashes between Hotel Patrons and Islamists:

A Mosque is not compatible with the Australian Hotel which is four doors up from the mosque site. This volatile situation could create clashes between Hotel patrons and Islamic followers as alcohol is forbidden in the Quran.
